The 49ers invited 33 tryout players to their rookie minicamp, including players from Stanford, Cal, UC Davis and Sacramento State. The UC Davis player is offensive lineman Julian Bertero, who also took part in San Francisco's "local" pro day prior to the draft. Sacramento State is represented by linebacker Ben Sorenson.

Darren Crawford, a defensive back from Southern Arkansas, also is on hand. He is the grandson of former 49ers pass rusher Fred Dean. Another defensive back, safety Ed Reynolds, was a fifth-round draft pick by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2014 who also has spent time with the Cleveland Browns.

Three tryout players from last year's rookie minicamp -- safety Chanceller James, offensive lineman Richard Levy and receiver B.J. Johnson -- were later signed to the 90-man offseason roster. James remains with the team.
