49ers Report Card

Report Card

Offense: It still looks ugly at times, but the 49ers’ deep passing game returns after a two-game absence. Colin Kaepernick has nice chemistry with Anquan Boldin and Vernon Davis. Add another steady target, and he’s golden.

Grade: B+

Defense: The unit gives up an end-of-half field goal but clamps down on Robert Griffin and the Redskins in the second half. Aldon Smith has a strong game and looks to be back in form for the team’s stretch run.

Grade: A

Special teams: LaMichael James has been a more aggressive alternative than his predecessor on punt returns, Kyle Williams, averaging 14.4 yards a return Monday. The coverage units are solid after a lapse last week in New Orleans.

Grade: A

Overall: The 49ers needed a win to stay ahead of the Cardinals in the hunt for a playoff spot and got it. They now return home for two straight games against division opponents, as well as a chance to get on a roll before the postseason.

Grade: B+
