Offense: Colin Kaepernick and Michael Crabtree heat up at the right time, and the receiver’s 102-yard effort leads the 49ers’ second-half surge. Tight end Vernon Davis, however, has a rare off night that includes three drops.
Defense: The unit gives up only two big plays, but both lead to Falcons touchdowns, including Matt Ryan’s 39-yard strike to Roddy White in the fourth quarter. Safety Eric Reid has had a solid rookie season but struggled at times Monday.
Special teams: Phil Dawson kicks his 26th consecutive field goal to extend his franchise record. The usually solid coverage units allow a big return just before the end of the first half that helps set up a Falcons field goal.
Overall: It wasn’t the easy victory and carefree celebration fans were hoping for against the four-win Falcons. But the 49ers have wrapped up a playoff berth for the third consecutive season and have won five straight games as the playoffs approach.
