San Francisco 49ers

New 49ers at a glance

Bruce Ellington

• Selected: 106th (fourth round)

• College: South Carolina

• Position: Receiver, return man

• Height, weight: 5-9, 197

• Comment: A former point guard, Ellington split his time between basketball and football in college and consequently has a good upside. He returned only three punts at South Carolina but could compete for punt and kickoff return duties with the 49ers.

Dontae Johnson

• Selected: 129th (fourth round)

• College: North Carolina State

• Position: Cornerback

• Height, weight: 6-2, 200

• Comment: Trent Baalke has been looking at tall, long-limbed cornerbacks in recent years and landed one with Johnson. He also played safety for the Wolfpack but projects to a press-style cornerback with the 49ers.

Aaron Lynch

• Selected: 150th (fifth round)

• College: South Florida

• Position: Linebacker

• Height, weight: 6-5, 249

• Comment: Lynch looked like one of the best pass rushers in the nation as a freshman at Notre Dame in 2011, but his play fell off after he transferred to South Florida. The 49ers spent a lot of time with Lynch and believe he can conquer character concerns that sank his draft stock.

Keith Reaser

• Selected: 170th (fifth round)

• College: Florida Atlantic

• Position: Cornerback

• Height, weight: 5-10, 189

• Comment: Speedy cornerback likely will not play in 2014 after two ACL surgeries in the last seven months. Like third-round pick Brandon Thomas, Reaser’s rookie season will amount to a redshirt year.

Kenneth Acker

• Selected: 180th (sixth round)

• College: SMU

• Position: Cornerback

• Height, weight: 6-0, 190

• Comment: Acker has good athleticism and some experience returning punts. He’s yet another player who will compete at the crowded, but undistinguished, cornerback position for San Francisco.

Kaleb Ramsey

• Selected: 243rd (seventh round)

• College: Boston College

• Position: Defensive end

• Height: 6-3, 293

• Comment: Ramsey has perfect size for a 3-4 defensive end, and he appears to have good strength. He had 36 repetitions of 225 pounds in the run-up to the draft. He faces plenty of competition for a roster spot.

Trey Millard

• Selected: 245th (seventh round)

• College: Oklahoma

• Position: Fullback

• Height: 6-2, 247

• Comment: Millard is yet another draft pick coming off an ACL injury. He was a versatile fullback for the Sooners with the size and soft hands to possibly fill in at H-back.
