Injuries: Starting CBs Culliver, Brock miss practice

Neither of the 49ers' starting cornerbacks, Chris Culliver or Tramaine Brock, practiced Wednesday. On the flip side, neither of the Bears starting receivers, Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery practiced, either.

Culliver, who suffered a concussion on Sunday, went through pre-practice stretches but then began working individually with the strength and conditioning coach when practice began.

Brock sprained his big toe in the first quarter against the Cowboys and his status is in doubt for Sunday's game against the Bears. Chris Cook filled in for Culliver when Culliver was injured during the preseason while Perrish Cox has been Brock's main backup.

Cook, however, was dressed in an opponent’s jersey number, signalling that his role in practice would be with the scout team. That indicates that rookie Dontae Johnson might start against the Bears.

In addition, Anthony Davis isn't practicing for the second straight week due to a hamstring strain. Jonathan Martin filled in for him against the Cowboys and played well.

Justin Smith also was not in uniform. Instead, he was working out separately with Aldon Smith. Justin Smith often gets so-called “veteran days off.”

Finally, as was speculated earlier, receiver Bruce Ellington was seen warming up with the running backs. He may replace recently released LaMichael James at that position at times against the Bears.
