Willis, Vance McDonald return to practice; Crabtree has quad strain

Three 49ers who missed Wednesday’s practice were back on the field for the start of Thursday’s session.

That includes linebacker Patrick Willis who is dealing with a wrist injury that he said was minor. “I’ll be fine,” he said earlier in the day. Willis, who has dealt with numerous fractures to his hands and fingers since college, was wearing wrist guards at practice

Also back were defensive end Justin Smith, whose veteran status routinely earns him a day off from practice on Wednesday, and tight end Vance McDonald, who missed Sunday’s game with a knee injury. McDonald did not seem to be doing as much as the other tight ends, including Vernon Davis, who was a limited participant Wednesday.

The only 49ers on the 53-man roster who were not on hand for the start of practice were cornerback Tramaine Brock (toe) and center Marcus Martin (knee).
