Nose tackle Glenn Dorsey returned to practice today, beginning a three-week window in which the 49ers either must put Dorsey on the active roster or shut him down for the season. Dorsey tore his biceps on Aug. 1, and the team placed him on injured reserve with a designation for return.
Ian Williams has played well at the position through the first seven games. Tony Jerod-Eddie and Quinton Dial also are capable of playing nose tackle. Dorsey had surgery Aug. 4.
