49ers to promote Chase Thomas to active roster

Dan Skuta’s ankle injury has bumped another outside linebacker, Chase Thomas, from the 49ers’ practice squad to the active roster. The team had an open roster spot after releasing defensive end Demarcus Dobbs earlier in the week.

“So blessed for this opportunity this weekend,” Thomas wrote on Twitter. “Crazy that it will be against the team I started with.”

Thomas, who played at Stanford, spent time with the Saints after going undrafted in 2013. The 49ers’ outside linebackers for the upcoming game are Ahmad Brooks, Aaron Lynch, Corey Lemonier and Thomas. Brooks and Lynch are likely to start.
