EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Joe Staley, who hasn't missed a start at left tackle since the 2010 season, will keep his current streak intact despite a knee injury that kept him out of two of three practices in the run-up to today's game.
Both Staley and left guard Alex Boone (ankle) were injured during the 49ers' Week 4 loss to the Packers. Jim Tomsula declared them "fine" on Wednesday, but both missed practice that day. Boone returned on Thursday but Staley didn't resume practicing until Friday.
Guard Andrew Tiller, whom the 49ers elevated from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday, is active for the game as is guard Brandon Thomas. This is the first time Thomas, a third-round pick in 2014, has been in uniform for a game. Guard/center Ian Silberman is the only offensive lineman on the roster not active, meaning that if center Marcus Martin were injured, right guard Jordan Devey likely would move to center.
Tiller took the roster spot of cornerback Shareece Wright, who was unhappy with his lack of playing time and asked to be traded or released. He was released Saturday after having played no snaps for the 49ers this season.
Tiller is the only backup offensive lineman with regular-season experience, although that experience is minimal. He played one snap for San Francisco during a 17-7 loss to Seattle last season
The other inactive players were tight end Vernon Davis, linebacker Ahmad Brooks, Silberman, receiver DeAndrew White, running back Mike Davis nose tackle Mike Purcell and newcomer linebacker Gerald Hodges, who was acquired in a trade last week.
Vernon Davis still is dealing with a knee injury suffered in Week 3. Vance McDonald will start in his place.
Brooks missed the week of practices to be with his family following the death of his older sister in Louisiana. Corey Lemonier will start at outside linebacker for Brooks.
