SEATTLE -- Anyone tuning in today to see hard-charging running backs Marshawn Lynch and Carlos Hyde will find their understudies instead.

Lynch, who has routinely run roughshod over the 49ers and who rushed for 122 yards in the teams’ meeting last month, is out with an abdominal injury. Rookie Thomas Rawls will start in his place. This will be the third game Lynch has missed this season; he’d missed one game in his first five seasons with the Seahawks.

Hyde, meanwhile, hasn’t played since the Oct. 22 matchup against the Seahawks. He’s dealing with a stress fracture in the side of his left foot. The plan is for him to return to action next week at home against the Cardinals or perhaps a week after that against the Bears. Journeyman Shaun Draughn will start in his place.

Receiver Anquan Boldin, who missed the last game with a hamstring strain, is active. He was listed as questionable on the 49ers injury report but practiced all week. Receivers Jerome Simpson and DeAndrew White are among the inactives. So is cornerback Keith Reaser, who was probable with an ankle injury. That means Marcus Cromartie and Chris Davis, both of them newcomers to the roster in the most recent game against Atlanta, will continue to play.

Tank Carradine, who didn’t play any snaps in the 49ers’ most recent game, also is inactive for today’s contest with the 49ers, the first game this season he has not been in uniform.

The team’s one-time second-round pick is in the midst of a metamorphosis. Early in his career, the 49ers wanted him to get to 300 pounds and play like one of their traditional defensive linemen like Justin Smith or Ray McDonald. Now they want him to return to his college weight -- about 275 pounds -- so that he can be more effective as an edge rusher.
