49ers pregame: No Ahmad Brooks against Cardinals

SANTA CLARA -- Ahmad Brooks, who complained of concussion symptoms after last week’s game, will sit out today’s matchup against the Cardinals. Brooks’ four sacks this season are second on the 49ers to fellow outside linebacker Aaron Lynch’s 6 1/2 sacks.

Brooks had started every game but one this season at outside linebacker and he wasn’t checked for a concussion during or after last week’s loss to the Seahawks. However, he experienced a headache midweek, which prompted the 49ers to put him in the NFL-mandated concussion protocol.

Brooks sat out Wednesday and Thursday’s practice session but was on hand Friday. Brooks also missed the team’s Week 5 game against the Giants to mourn the death of his older sister.

Corey Lemonier will start in Brooks’ place and rookie Eli Harold also is projected to see increased snaps. Neither has recorded a sack this season. Brooks’ absence also means that Tank Carradine, who is now under 280 pounds, is likely to line up as a pass rusher in third-down situations. With Brooks out today and with Glenn Dorsey and Antoine Bethea on injured reserve, the 49ers’ oldest defender is 28-year-old linebacker Michael Wilhoite.

Meanwhile, running back Carlos Hyde will miss his fourth straight game with a stress fracture. Shaun Draughn will start in his place.
