What athletes with Sacramento-area connections are up to at the Summer Olympics:

Joanne Fa’avesi, Sacramento, rugby: On Sunday, the Burbank High grad helped the U.S. tie 12-12 with top-seeded Australia and advance to the quarterfinals, where the Americans lost 5-0 to New Zealand and were eliminated from medal contention.

DeMarcus Cousins, Kings, basketball: The U.S. men’s team plays Venezuela on Monday at 3 p.m. (NBCSN, 1320). Cousins had 17 points and five rebounds in Saturday’s 119-62 rout of China.

Alex Obert, Loomis, water polo: The Del Oro High grad and the men’s team play Spain on Monday at 7:40 a.m.

Sam Dommer, Folsom, rowing: Dommer will be in the men’s eights boat for Monday’s heats starting at 9:50 a.m.
