Locals watch: Alex Obert scores twice in U.S. water polo finale

What athletes with Sacramento-area connections are up to at the Summer Olympics:

DeMarcus Cousins, Kings, basketball: The center had nine points and five rebounds in 20 minutes in the U.S. men’s 100-97 victory Sunday over France in their final game of group play. The quarterfinals are Wednesday, semifinals Friday and gold-medal game Aug. 21.

Haley Anderson, Granite Bay, swimming: Anderson competes Monday in the women’s 10k open water race (5 a.m.). She won the silver medal four years ago in London.

Alex Obert, Loomis, water polo: The Del Oro grad scored twice to help the U.S. men beat Italy 10-7 in their final match Sunday after they were eliminated from medal contention on Friday.
