Sacramento’s Urijah “The California Kid” Faber will face Brad Pickett of London on the UFC on Fox 22 at Golden 1 Center on Dec. 17.
The main event will be between strawweight contenders Paige VanZant and Michelle Waterson. VanZant is a member of Faber’s Team Alpha Male that trains at Ultimate Fitness in downtown Sacramento.
Josh Emmett, another Team Alpha Male member, has also been added to the undercard. He’ll fight in his second UFC bout against Scott Holtzman in a lightweight match. Emmett was scheduled to fight on UFC on Fox 21 in August but suffered an injury and had to withdraw.
Also added to the undercard is a match between Sultan Aliev of Russia against Bojan Velickovic of Serbia in a welterweight fight.
Ranked seventh among UFC bantamweights, Faber (33-10) will step into the octagon for the third time in 2016 in search of his first victory of the year. The 37-year-old former WEC champion lost a unanimous decision to Jimmie Rivera at UFC 203 in September and a five-round unanimous decision to longtime rival Dominick Cruz for the bantamweight championship at UFC 199 in June.
Faber’s last victory came Dec. 12, 2015, a three-round unanimous decision over Frankie Saenz.
At 38, Pickett (26-12) has lost five of his past seven bouts. He is not ranked among the top 15 UFC bantamweights.
