Axe-throwing bar will soon open at this midtown Sacramento location
Warm up your axe-chucking arm: Bad Ax Throwing Co. restaurant and bar will open in midtown Sacramento early next year, according to the company’s website.
The 4,500-square foot ax-throwing bar at 2010 K St. – in the heart of midtown’s busy entertainment district – will have eight lanes and 16 targets for throwers to hit after they undergo a brief safety and technique training. Bad Axe’s website also says it will have a full bar with food, though owner Mario Zelaya told the Sacramento Business Journal it would sell beer and wine but not hard alcohol.
Axe-throwing bars have become popular over the last five years for their blend of food, drinks and active entertainment as well as their capacity to host group events or office retreats. They’ve only recently begun reaching the Sacramento area, but the growth has been rapid.
A similar business concept, SmartAxe, opened in Rancho Cordova in August and has plans to open in midtown Sacramento as well as Roseville, Modesto, San Jose, Livermore, Chico and cities in Arizona, Washington and Texas, according to its website.
Sauced BBQ & Spirits offers axe-throwing in its Downtown Commons location as well. Another outfit called Impact Axe plans to open at 4415 Granite Drive in Rocklin, according to California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control permit applications.
Bad Axe has 34 locations open or under construction in the U.S., including Fresno, San Francisco and San Diego, as well as 12 in Canada and the United Kingdom. The website lists an anticipated opening date of February 2020 for the midtown location; Zelaya told the Business Journal it would open by spring.
