When looking for the best CPA prep course, you’ll frequently find courses like Becker and UWorld duking it out for the top spot. They both claim to help aspiring CPAs beat the 57.26% pass rate across all six sections, but which provider is really the better choice?

As an exam prep expert, I studied both options in great detail, collecting every piece of data I could get my hands on: from average answer explanation length to the duration of an average video lecture. Here’s what you need to know before dropping a four-figure investment on your prep.

Becker vs UWorld CPA Review: Which Is the Better Fit?

  • If you want the most structured, prescriptive study plan with frequent coaching and tutoring options, Becker is the stronger choice. Its platform is built around guided progression and regular touchpoints.
  • If live instruction and ongoing support are a priority, Becker stands out. Live classes, tutoring sessions, and success coaching are integrated into the experience rather than treated as add-ons.
  • If you value a long-standing reputation and wide adoption across firms and universities, Becker has an edge. It’s often the default choice for candidates who want a proven, traditional prep model.
  • If you prefer detailed answer explanations and instructions that focus on the “why,” UWorld is a strong alternative. Its explanations and walkthroughs are a consistent highlight.
  • If you want a more flexible, self-paced experience with strong mobile access and modern tools, UWorld may be the better fit. It offers adaptive tech and live boot camps without locking candidates into a rigid schedule.

UWorld vs Becker CPA Review

To start, let’s lay out the basics of both courses, to give you a better idea of what my experience was like and whether each would be a good fit for your needs.

Becker: Supportive and Entertaining

Becker

Becker is frequently at the top of my lists because their courses are just so reliable; they’re so consistently well-organized, effective, and even entertaining enough to hold my interest (which I cannot emphasize the importance of enough for CPA exam preppers). I found it easy to watch multiple bite-sized video lessons in one go, and the animated instructors made this even easier. Many of the presenters have palpable energy, passion, and even strong senses of humor, making lectures a lot more enjoyable than any I had when I was prepping for the CPA exams.

Plus, with features like personalized tutoring and coaching in tandem with live online classes, Becker could be a smart pick for students who value added layers of support and accountability. And, the level of protection and ease of mind that comes with Becker’s pass guarantee made me feel more confident that the materials would actually do what Becker said they would. It’s subtle, but it’s worth acknowledging that it’s easier to study when you’re a little less stressed about your finances.

Pros

  • Pass guarantee across several packages ($1k to 100% refund)
  • Lower starting price than UWorld
  • AI study assistant Newt
  • Live online classes and 1:1 support
  • Top-rated mobile app

Cons

  • The Concierge package has a luxury price

UWorld: All-Encompassing Self-Study

UWorld

UWorld is another giant in the industry, and after testing their courses, I can safely say it’s for good reason. Above all else, “giant” is probably the best way to describe their content library, with an estimated 500+ hours of video content spanning 1,400+ videos, over 9,000 practice questions, and unlimited practice exams and customizable quizzes.

I’ll be honest: while I felt overwhelmed at times, I also felt really safe and secure in that overwhelm. Personally, I’d rather have too much than not enough, and knowing I had more than what I’d need if I were to take the exams made me feel more confident. Plus, I really enjoyed UWorld’s mobile app, which was highly rated, even if it wasn’t as positively reviewed as Becker’s. Further, though there isn’t as much one-on-one training or live online classes, the live boot camps added an element of accountability and community that made prep feel more structured (so I wasn’t pushing studying off until the last minute, AKA the deadline for this review).

Pros

  • Lower-priced top-tier course than Becker
  • 500 additional practice questions than Becker
  • Live boot camps for core sections
  • Up to $1,000 back pass guarantee

Cons

  • Less extensive support than Becker
  • Lots of content may overwhelm busy students

Course Layout

Becker CPA

Becker is known for their signature navy blue and yellow color scheme, which lends itself well to a strong level of professional polish. I appreciated the variety in Becker’s structure, moving from subject outlines to video lessons (14 minutes and 12 seconds on average) to practice questions, so I never felt the monotony I tend to feel after studying for several hours. Plus, getting to just click to the next task, no thoughts or extra choices required, made it easier for me to study without decision fatigue.

UWorld CPA SmartPath

UWorld is similarly well-structured, though personally, I do find Becker’s interface a little more aesthetically pleasing. The loading speed tended to be slightly longer than Becker’s, but not to a deal-breaking degree. Further, it’s the same “click to the next thing” style, which again, was much more relaxing than other courses that make you “jump around” to get where you need to go.

Winner: Becker gets a slight edge here due to their highly polished interface.

Video Lessons

Becker CPA video

Becker includes over 900 videos. With each averaging around 14 minutes and 12 seconds, that’s an estimated 213 hours of content. Becker leads with personality and entertainment, like UWorld, but the videos tend to be a little shorter. This did make them easier to digest at times, but some may be looking for a little extra depth. Overall, though, they were entertaining. There were plenty of real-world examples and anecdotes to sink my teeth into, grounding topics that can often feel more nebulous and difficult to grasp than they should, especially some of the trickier math topics. Becker made them a lot simpler.

UWorld video

UWorld takes video numbers to another level, offering over 1,400 lessons, with each averaging 21 minutes and 30 seconds. That’s a total of roughly 502 hours of on-demand lectures. This could really go one of two ways: it could feel reassuring to know you have so much content available, or it could feel overwhelming, depending on your personality. I will say that the videos featuring Roger Philipp and Peter Olinto knock it out of the park. Philipp’s energy and excitement, in particular, made learning a lot more interesting, and at times, even fun. Both lead instructors had a great sense of humor, as well, so I wasn’t dreading study time (not for the exam, but for the sake of completing this review) as much as I normally would.

However, it’s worth considering whether you want longer + more materials. Take this Redditor, for example:

“I like Becker’s MCQ explanations so much better than UWorlds. With UWorld it’s like I’m reading a textbook for every McQ solution. Becker is more concise and on-point. Now if I need more info, I just go into their built in AI bot called Newt and get all the info I need.”

Winner: Both have excellent video lectures, but UWorld’s quantity, plus the dynamic energies of their lead instructors, give them the win.

Pricing and Value

Both providers offer similar price ranges, except that Becker’s spans a wider overall range, with top-tier and bottom-tier courses that extend the total. For example, while UWorld ranges between $3,499 and $4,099, Becker ranges from $2,499 to $6,039, taking both the spot for the most and least affordable course option.

Ultimately, though the price is steep, they’re on par with the rest of the market, especially considering the sheer volume of content and support you’re getting. The main difference for me is that the only pass guarantee UWorld offers is the sole addition to the Elite Unlimited+ package (when compared to the Elite Unlimited package), and the pass guarantee only refunds up to $1,000 back. Becker, meanwhile, includes a 100% refund for their premium-tier Concierge Package, plus up to $1,000 back for the Pro and Pro+ bundles.

Winner: While both offer value, Becker’s stronger pass guarantees and wider price range give students more reliable flexibility.

Support

UWorld offers live boot camps covering the AUD, FAR, and REG core exam sections in their Elite Unlimited and Elite Unlimited+. However, otherwise, support beyond standard customer service is relatively sparse. The boot camp, though, was helpful; I can see how having that level of regulated structure to follow could help students who struggle to stay “on track,” particularly when you’re nearing the end of the road and about ready to collapse. The boot camps ensure you collapse after the finish line, ensuring the hard work actually pays off. We worked through practice questions and explanations, discussed key tips for things like time management and removing incorrect answers, but the best part? The sense of community. Everyone was working towards a common goal, and inside of the container, other students were setting up study groups and connecting on the outside. It was really great to see.

Becker support

Becker, on the other hand, goes above and beyond when it comes to support. The Concierge package includes up to 25 success coaching and 25 tutoring sessions, each lasting an hour long. Meanwhile, the Pro and Pro+ Packages include 5 of each, and all three of the packages just mentioned include live online classes (including a few live in-person classes). While reviewing Becker’s platform, I was able to access coaching calendars, tutoring booking flows, and live class recordings directly from the main sidebar, and the support options were clearly built into the core study experience rather than tucked away. From a reviewer’s standpoint, it’s obvious Becker expects candidates to actually use these resources regularly, not treat them as optional add-ons.

Winner: Becker is one of the top CPA prep course picks for support, and they offer more support options than UWorld.

Who Should Choose Becker or UWorld?

While both courses offer quality materials, pass guarantees, and extensive support options, they’re better fits for certain types of students.

Becker CPA Review courses cater to learners who want reliability and assurance: a simple, straightforward solution to passing the CPA exams. Learners who value personal 1-on-1 support sessions will especially appreciate Becker’s live online classes, success coaching, and content tutoring sessions.

Meanwhile, UWorld CPA Review tends to focus more on self-study. Though they have live boot camps, they’re not as personal, nor do they cover any discipline sections. However, with 500+ additional practice questions and an estimated ~300 additional hours of video content when compared to Becker, UWorld is almost as comprehensive as it gets (second only to Gleim).

Final Verdict

Ultimately, both Becker and UWorld are reliable CPA exam review solutions, but the best really boils down to your needs and goals. If you want the most tried-and-true option that balances comprehensive content with engaging lectures and bespoke support, all while making the most of your time, Becker’s the best choice. However, if you’re a “go big or go home” kind of learner and you firmly believe that more is more, you’ll find a ton of value in UWorld’s massive video content library, question bank, and boot camps.
