There’s no denying it. Finance is a competitive industry.
Last year, Goldman Sachs’ intern hiring rate reached its lowest ever, just 0.7% of the record-breaking 360,000 intern applications received!
Luckily, there are many ways, from short on-demand courses to live training, certifications, and mentorship, to brush up your finance skills, specialize, and win that job or promotion.
Corporate Finance Institute (CFI) is a finance training institute providing that training, including a range of renowned, accredited courses and certifications.
I tried out CFI’s learning platform and compared its courses and certifications myself.
Is CFI Right for You?
- If you want to learn financial modeling from scratch, then CFI is one of my favorite options.
- If you work in FP&A or corporate finance, CFI offers a wide range of useful, finance-focused courses and certifications to help you upskill.
- If you’re looking for a respected finance training provider, CFI is it, recognized through NASBA registration, HLC endorsement, and Walbrook/LIBF program accreditation. You can also earn verifiable CPE/CPD credits with CFI.
- If you want to pay a flat annual fee for full access, then CFI’s annual Full-Immersion and Self-Study membership plans have a clear advantage over the competition.
- If you want lifetime access for a flat fee, then another provider may fit you better.
Corporate Finance Institute Course Overview
If you want to improve your finance skills, Corporate Finance Institute (CFI) has you covered. CFI was founded in 2016, and more than 3 million people have registered for membership across 190+ countries.
CFI offers among its 250+ online courses:
All courses and certifications are self-paced and available online. This means you don’t have to join a live class every Tuesday at 7 p.m. and hope your Wi-Fi behaves. Instead, you can move through the lessons at your own pace.
CFI has also received outside recognition. It’s an HLC-endorsed short-term credential provider and NASBA-registered CPE sponsor. Six CFI certification programs are also accredited by Walbrook Institute London, formerly the London Institute of Banking & Finance (LIBF).
Pros
✅ 250+ courses featuring 5000+ video lessons
✅ Strong focus on practical Excel, modeling, and finance skills
✅ Seven certification programs and 15 specializations available
✅ Self-paced format works well around a full-time job
✅ Large library of templates, models, exercises, and case studies
CFI’s training also covers diverse finance-related subjects, such as financial modeling, valuation, accounting, investment banking, corporate finance, FP&A, commercial banking, capital markets, business intelligence, and wealth management.
Plus, CFI’s backing signals quality, even though CFI itself isn’t an accredited university.
Cons
❌ Subscription payments are generally non-refundable
❌ May not appeal to learners who prefer a one-time purchase with lifetime access
❌ No phone support
❌ Mandatory course completion before certification exams
❌ Predominantly US market-centric curriculum
“I paid 260 EUR circa for the subscription thanks to the discount during the black friday. I appreciate their seriousness, they are not scammers. But for less than 300 EUR, you get what you pay for. If you have a master’s in finance on BA or economics. etc. this is not for you. It’s all superficial. I expected more from the financial modelling course, and they were just repeating the same things about the same model in different boring ways for every course in the learning path. If you have an high school diploma or you know nothing about economics/finance this is suitable for you. If you are looking for real finance skills go for the CFA and get a job. Stop. There is nothing to learn here for you, if that is the case. And last note: these courses are really focused only on the US market, so it’s not useful even for Europeans. I’d have appreciated a course on IAS/IFRS and advanced accounting / auditing courses based on the european market for example. By the way, they didn’t meet my expectations. i give 3 stars only because I paid almost nothing.”
Review from Giorgio – February 1, 2026
Yes, CFI isn’t necessarily the right choice for everyone. Still, the range of training included in its subscription plans makes it one of the most complete finance learning platforms I’ve reviewed.
Corporate Finance Institute Pricing and Packages

CFI has four main individual membership subscription options in 2026:
- Self-Study
- Full-Immersion
- Team Plans (Basic and Premium)
All CFI memberships are charged annually, ensuring ongoing access to plan-relevant courses, certifications, specializations, tools, and resources.
Self-Study Plan
I think the Self-Study plan makes the most sense for most professionals. With it, you receive access to the full course library plus all CFI’s certification courses, certification exams, and specialization programs.
The plan includes:
If you’re comfortable learning independently, there’s little reason to pay more unless you specifically want expert feedback.
Full-Immersion Plan
The Full-Immersion subscription includes everything the Self-Study one does, plus more direct help.
Extra features include:
The feature I find most interesting is being able to submit one financial model per week for personalized feedback. You can watch 50 videos on how to build a model and still wonder whether your own spreadsheet looks like something a professional would actually use. Having someone review your work can help close that gap.
CFI Team Plans
CFI also offers Team Plans for companies that want to train two or more employees. These plans better fit finance teams, departments, and businesses that need shared training, learning paths, and reporting tools rather than separate individual accounts.
Basic Plan
The Basic Team Plan is best for companies that mainly want to give employees access to CFI’s training, tools, and resources. However, this membership excludes access to all certifications and specializations.
Instead, the Basic Team Plan includes:
Premium Plan
The Premium Team Plan is the better choice if your company wants employees to earn CFI certifications.
The Premium Team Plan builds on the Basic plan by adding:
Both Team plans can also support larger organizations through enterprise LMS or learning-experience-platform integrations and single sign-on options, although companies need to contact CFI for details. CFI also offers volume discounts for larger groups.
For most businesses, I’d choose Basic if the main goal is staff development. Premium only makes sense if professional certifications are part of the company’s learning or career-development program.

What It’s Like to Study With CFI
A Huge Finance Course Library Without Much Hand-Holding
CFI’s training is mainly built around self-paced online learning. Training courses combine video instruction with written material, downloadable files, quizzes, assessments, exercises, and case studies.
Certification and specialization courses comprise multiple training courses, curated according to the certification or specialization focus. There’s also an exam at the end for certifications.
I like how training courses range from beginner topics to much more advanced work. This makes it easier to fill knowledge gaps before (or while) starting a certification.
For example, someone who struggles with accounting or Excel can complete courses specifically on these topics before diving into harder financial modeling lessons.
That’s one reason I like CFI for beginners. You don’t have to arrive already knowing how everything works. CFI’s range of courses offers all the learning you need as you upskill.
CFI’s FMVA® Course & Certification

The FMVA® is probably the CFI program most readers will be considering. I think it’s one of the best financial modeling-centric courses available. It’s very informative and includes many hands-on examples and exercises.
The FMVA® is a self-paced certification program with 44 core and elective training courses, but certification requires completing only 18. CFI estimates that learners may need roughly 100 to 120 hours to complete all this coursework. There are also nine optional exam prep courses and 8 optional case study challenges to help you complete this certification.
Topics covered in the core and elective FMVA® courses include:
Spreadsheet Ratings
Modeling spreadsheet
After you complete all the mandatory coursework, you sit an exam to earn your FMVA® certificate. It is a 3-hour, online, timed test consisting of 50 randomized multiple-choice questions and Excel modeling case studies. You need a passing score of 70% to earn your FMVA® certification. Gaining the other certifications follows a similar process.
Video Lessons and Learning Platform
I found CFI’s learning platform clean and fairly easy to navigate. You have two options to access it: via the CFI website or mobile app. I logged into the website to access my dashboard. Once in, I could get to most site sections via the simple left-hand menu.
The site also loaded quickly, and I found video content displayed smoothly. Video lessons are split into smaller, bite-sized, minutes-long pieces placed throughout relevant course modules. So, CFI doesn’t force you through one giant lecture. Overall, the videos are modern and engaging to watch, and there are some viewing tools to help fine-tune your studies.
You can:

CFI Mobile App
CFI has expanded its mobile options as well. Its CFI: Real-World Finance app is available for iOS and Android and is easy to use. Mobile learning has some limits, though. PDF files, text, videos, downloadable content, and audio are supported, but multimedia, exams, and quizzes require the full web platform.
In other words, the app is useful for studying on the couch or during a commute. But I wouldn’t try to build a full DCF model on your phone (unless you enjoy suffering). I found that the app supports many of CFI’s certifications, though.
As of October 2026 , the app had more than 10,000 downloads on the Google Play Store and a roughly 4.0 rating, but from just 8 reviews. The official U.S. iOS version had a higher 4.8 rating, but it was based on only 11 ratings. So, I wouldn’t read too much into these numbers yet.
Does CFI Offer Good Value?
CFI’s biggest value comes from how much material is included under one subscription. I appreciate that I could work through all the certification programs, specializations, and individual finance courses during the same subscription period.
Add to that that the annual plan fees are around the same as many freestanding finance training courses, and you’re onto a winner.
The downside is the refund policy. CFI states that all payments are generally non-refundable unless applicable law gives you cancellation or withdrawal rights. However, this is not a major issue. CFI’s free trial lets you sample introductory material risk-free from much of its course catalog.
CFI Support and Course Access
Self-Study, Full-Immersion, and Team Premium plans give you full access to all courses, certifications, and specializations for a year. Only Team Basic plans limit access to certifications and specializations, but still offer full access to courses, tools, and resources.
Self-Study is designed for independent learners who don’t need much feedback, while Full-Immersion and Team (Basic and Pro) plans add more personal support in the form of Ask An Expert queries, an AI Tutor, and financial model feedback.
For general help across all these CFI plans, CFI also provides online support. You can contact CFI via an AI chatbot or email, and access the Help Center to view FAQs. There’s no phone number listed. Instead, you create a ticket via the AI chatbox or email directly. Not the greatest range of support, but it does the job. With Team plans, you also get premium email support.
The big choice is therefore simple. If you’re happy figuring things out yourself, get Self-Study. If you expect to ask lots of questions or want someone to check your models, Full-Immersion has more value. And if you’re a team, note that these plans offer better support overall.
Testing Out CFI Support Myself
To test out CFI’s support, I sent a few queries to the AI chatbot and an inquiry to the support team. The chatbot was pretty helpful, even linking relevant help articles in the Help Center. Support was also helpful and quick to reply, doing so a few hours after support hours began.
Since I was signed up for a Self-Study plan, I couldn’t test the Ask An Expert or financial modeling feedback features. However, you can easily access both, separate from the Help Center, via the left-hand menu in your CFI Dashboard.

What CFI Customers Say
At the time of this review (October 2026 ), Corporate Finance Institute had a 4.8 out of 5 Trustpilot score from around 1036 reviews, with 92% of submitted reviews rated five stars.
Common positive feedback focuses on:
- The practicality of CFI course material
- The simple explanations
- Wide course selection
- Its usefulness for people building core finance skills
“CFI’s FMVA program has been an excellent complement to my university studies. It helped me develop practical financial modelling and valuation skills that are difficult to acquire through academic courses alone.
Review from Jean Vigneron – October 3, 2026
“The courses are clear and structured. I was able to apply the techniques I was learning immediately during my internship in corporate finance.
“The FMVA therefore helped me bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical execution. I would highly recommend CFI to students and young professionals.”
Reddit discussions are more mixed, which I actually find helpful. Some users praise the FMVA® certification for teaching useful modeling and corporate finance skills. Others point out that the credential itself isn’t on the same level as qualifications such as the CFA charter or a university degree. Therefore, it shouldn’t be expected to get someone a job on its own.
Another common theme is experience level. People early in their careers may get more value from CFI’s structured curriculum than a professional who’s already spent ten years working with financial statements and models (or maybe has a university degree). You also have to complete training courses to sit the certification exams, which may bore experienced professionals.
I agree with these assessments. The real reason to buy CFI is to learn the skills. Treat the certificate as proof that you’ve completed structured training, not a golden ticket into Goldman Sachs.

Comparison information checked in October 2026
CFI vs. Wall Street Prep
Wall Street Prep is CFI’s closest competitor. In addition to self-paced learning, Wall Street Prep also offers on-campus training, live 1:1 coaching, and in-person boot camps, something that CFI lacks.
However, its courses mainly focus on investment banking. CFI’s finance training is much broader.
Choose CFI if you want a large finance learning library and to complete several training programs under one subscription.
Pick Wall Street Prep if your main goal is concentrated on investment banking.
CFI vs. Wharton Online
Wharton Online is a better fit if you want university-backed business education with a strong academic name attached. It also offers a much broader spectrum of learning options than CFI, including live, in-person, and blended (live and online) courses and certifications.
However, while Wharton may carry more recognition, CFI gives you a much larger library of job-focused finance training. And it’s all for a much more affordable flat fee. Wharton Online courses are very pricey, with no subscriptions or bundles and few promos to soften the financial blow.
Choose CFI if you want practical finance career training with several specializations and certification paths.
Pick Wharton Online if you want programs backed by the Wharton name and renowned universities.
CFI vs. Breaking Into Wall Street
Like with CFI, you sign up for BIWS courses annually. However, plans don’t auto-renew, and different tiers include courses at different levels. For example, the Silver plan includes all Level 1 courses, Gold includes all Level 2 courses, and Platinum includes all Level 3 & 4 courses.
Most individual BIWS purchases also include five years of support and come with a 90-day money-back guarantee, which CFI doesn’t offer. However, CFI still gives you much more variety.
Choose CFI if you want modeling plus broader corporate finance, FP&A, and analytics training and certification options.
Pick BIWS if you’re laser-focused on investment banking, Excel, PowerPoint, and deal modeling.
CFI vs. Training The Street
Training The Street also focuses heavily on preparing learners for investment banking, private equity, and other deal-driven finance roles. Through its public and SprinTTS training, it also offers live virtual and in-person instruction, giving it an advantage over CFI.
Choose CFI if you want a large self-paced course library with certifications and training across many areas of finance.
Pick Training The Street if you want highly focused Wall Street investment banking and private equity training, or if you prefer live or in-person instructor-led courses.
CFI vs. Financial Edge
Financial Edge is another strong alternative for professionals who want practical finance skills. It also provides a similar full-access annual subscription-style setup to CFI. There are two Felix platform plans: Boost and Pro. However, you can also buy single courses for a lifetime for a low flat fee, which CFI doesn’t allow you to do.
Financial Edge’s Boost plan includes 43 completion certificates, 63 skills certificates, 12 micro-degrees, 326+ hours of instructor-led learning, 563+ playlists with 4,752+ videos and Q&As, role-focused learning paths, and expert instructor support.
Its Pro plan also adds streamlined company data, company filings for 7,000+ companies, market and industry data, and ready-to-use sector and transaction models.
Choose CFI if you want structured certification programs, a broad course library, and a clear path through financial modeling and corporate finance.
Pick Financial Edge if you want deep role-based training, expert instructor support, and access to company and market data alongside your courses.
CFI vs. New York Institute of Finance
Founded in 1922 by the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), NYIF operates as a specialized professional training provider rather than an accredited degree-granting academic university. However, it still offers more traditional, professional-style training than CFI, backed by many organizations.
Currently, NYIF has 300+ courses and certifications available, grouped into Introductory, Professional, and Advanced tiers. Those cover accounting, alternative investments, derivatives and options, equities, SIE exam prep, finance, FinTech, fixed income, hedge funds, mergers and acquisitions, operations, portfolio management, quantitative methods, regulation and compliance, risk, structured products, trading, and wealth management.
Unlike CFI, NYIF offers several study formats, including in-person classes in New York, live virtual training, self-paced online study, and hybrid learning. However, most NYIF courses and certifications cost in the thousands.
Choose CFI if you want flexible self-paced learning under one low-cost membership.
Pick New York Institute of Finance if you prefer live or in-person instruction or want short, respected, intensive professional training programs.
CFI vs. Wall Street Oasis
Wall Street Oasis mixes finance training with access to a large finance community of 5,000+ mentors. It offers freestanding training bundles and a nice selection of free training courses, which CFI lacks. If you join the WSO Academy, you also get full access to all courses, plus networking and job opportunities. WSO even offers an optional 100% money-back job placement guarantee.
However, CFI’s advantage is again breadth and its structured certification paths. Choose CFI if you want an organized learning platform covering many finance careers.
Pick Wall Street Oasis if you want training tied closely to investment banking, private equity, and finance recruiting, plus access to its broader career and job search and placement community.

Final Verdict: Is Corporate Finance Institute Worth It?
Yes, I think Corporate Finance Institute is worth it for the right learner. Its 7 certifications, specifically the FMVA® and FPAP™, are accredited.
With 250+ courses, CPE/CPD credit eligibility, 15 specializations, and on-demand finance training that you can complete at your own pace, CFI remains one of the strongest options for building practical finance skills.
FAQs
Is Corporate Finance Institute legit?
Yes. CFI is a well-established finance education provider with more than 3 million registered users. It’s recognized by the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA), the London Institute of Banking & Finance (LIBF), and the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). You can also earn verifiable CPE/CPD credits by completing CFI courses.
Is the CFI FMVA® certification worth it?
The Financial Modeling & Valuation Analyst (FMVA®) is worth considering if you want structured training in financial modeling and valuation. It’s most useful for building practical skills rather than as a stand-alone credential that guarantees employment.
How long does CFI’s FMVA® take?
Many learners complete the FMVA® training course in about 100 to 120 hours. It’s fully self-paced, so your actual completion time depends on your study schedule. After completing the courses, you also need to take an exam and score 70% or higher to earn your FMVA® certification.
Does CFI give refunds?
Generally, no. CFI states that all payments are non-refundable except where applicable consumer laws provide cancellation or withdrawal rights. Turning off renewal, even within days of purchase, just lets you keep access until the end of the annual billing period you’ve paid for. However, you can sign up for a free trial to try out its course materials risk-free.
