With a median salary of nearly $80,000 and a job outlook double the average growth rate, now is an excellent time to get into the securities industry. However, it isn’t as simple as choosing your path and going after it. To get the legal right to sell securities and advise clients, you’ll have to pass some of FINRA’s securities exams first.

ExamFX aims to help you pass those exams, but are their prep courses worth the investment?

I’ve analyzed some of their top prep courses for the Series 6, 7, 63, 65, 66, and SIE to give you the inside scoop on everything you need to know. By the end of this review, you’ll know whether ExamFX is the perfect fit or whether you should look at another provider.

Should You Choose ExamFX?

  • If you learn best with variety, ExamFX’s mix of video lectures, flashcards, and live webinars will keep your study sessions dynamic and engaging.
  • If you value real-time support, being able to call an instructor directly during business hours can be a significant advantage.
  • If you’re prepping for multiple securities exams, ExamFX’s wide range of FINRA courses makes it a convenient all-in-one solution.
  • If you’re looking for the lowest price, competitors like Achievable or SIA might offer better value for budget-conscious learners.
  • If you want a pass guarantee for peace of mind, ExamFX’s lack of one could be a potential downside.

ExamFX Securities Licensing Overview

ExamFX doesn’t offer prep courses for every FINRA exam, but they cover quite a few: Series 3, 4, 6, 7, 9, 10, 24, 31, 34, 63, 65, 66, 99, and of course, the Securities Industry Essentials exam. Further, they report a pass rate of 91% for securities licensing students.

ExamFX is unique in the sense that while they don’t have one point that stands out, they have a wide variety of materials, invaluable for students who struggle with the traditional “read, practice, and read some more” study style. Instead, you can intersperse your reading with video lectures, live online classes, flashcards, check out the glossary, and get support by calling your instructor for clarification on indexed annuities.

But for a better feel of what you’re getting with ExamFX, let’s dig into the materials and closely examine their packages.

“I passed my Series 66 in 4 weeks with this material. I also passed my state insurance exams. It was easy to navigate, and the information was current. Best part, it was cheaper than the competition.”

Pros

  • Six unique exam types, including unlimited practice tests through a custom exam generator

  • Comprehensive instructor support through email and phone

Cons

  • More expensive than top competitors like Securities Institute of America and Achievable
  • Offers a lot of everything, but doesn’t have a strong specialization or unique selling proposition

ExamFX Experience: Course Material Deep Dive

Content and Structure

Though it depends on the course, ExamFX usually offers three packages:

  • Live Online Study Package
  • Online Course Package
  • Textbook Package

The price difference between the Textbook Package, which is pretty basic and clean-cut, and the Live Online Study Package, which delivers everything ExamFX has to offer, is often a difference of $100 to $200. As a result, the Live Online package is usually the best deal, especially due to their live virtual webinars, perfect for learners who thrive with real-time, interactive instruction.

Regardless of the package you choose, ExamFX also offers plenty of practice questions, practice exams, video lectures, digital flashcards, cheat sheets, instructor support, and even a personalized study plan.

I really loved having such a wide variety of tools because, like I mentioned before, it’s a welcome relief to break up the monotony of reading so long. As a professional course reviewer and writer, don’t get me wrong, I love a good read! But I also love a good break, which was especially effective in keeping me interested and engaged in the material.

“So, for whoever is reading this, the ExamFx program works. I took the Series 66/65 five times using other company study materials. Didn’t pass, which is fun. The Series 66 was the toughest test I’ve ever taken. The 7, 63, 31, and AAMS were no problem compared to this test. So I decided to get serious and purchase the full class/online package through ExamFx. This made a huge difference because of the live online classes, quizzes, flash cards, and preparation tests. This program works, and you will pass.”

Video Lessons and Live Classes

You can look forward to an average of 10–15 hours of video lessons and roughly 6 hours of live webinars, regardless of the exam you’re studying for. The videos are broken into manageable chunks—usually 5 to 10 minutes long—which made it easy for me to squeeze in a few lessons during lunch breaks or while commuting.

The instructors do a great job of simplifying complex topics without dumbing them down, and the visual aids were surprisingly helpful in keeping my attention. What I liked most was the clean, distraction-free layout—no pop-ups, no clutter—just straight-to-the-point instruction.

As for the live classes, they felt more like workshops than lectures. The instructors encouraged questions, and in the session I attended, they took time to break down the more confusing areas of the content, like options strategies and suitability rules. It wasn’t just passive learning—I actually felt engaged, even through a screen.

Student Support

Though ExamFX doesn’t offer something like 1-on-1 tutoring sessions, the fact that you can literally pull out your phone and call your instructors is such a value add. Though you can only call during certain hours, you can message to ask for help around the clock, whenever your questions arise.

In my experience, the entire customer support team was quick to reply, eager to help, and everything you’d expect from a professional company. I reached out a couple of times with questions about course access and practice exam settings, and each time I got a clear, friendly response within a few hours—sometimes even faster. It honestly felt like they wanted me to pass, not just sell me a course, which was refreshing as someone who works in this space.

“Shawn Roberts is an amazing team member at Examfx.com and has helped me numerous times navigate through my SIE/Series 6/63 licensing questions. He is quick to respond and is quite knowledgeable. Thank you, Shawn!!”

Access, Guarantees, and Value

Access periods are six months for most packages, which is the industry standard (though longer than Kaplan by one month, and shorter than Achievable by six). However, ExamFX noticeably lacks a pass guarantee, which competitors like the Securities Institute of America and the Securities Training Corporation both provide.

As far as price goes, ExamFX is right in the middle: pricier than competitors like SIA and Achievable, but more affordable than STC, and often lower-priced than Kaplan (though sometimes pricier, depending on the exam in question). Ultimately, ExamFX isn’t necessarily the most valuable, but they’re not the least, either. It’s a good balance of materials and access for the price.

The Bottom Line: Is ExamFX Worth It?

Whether you want a lot of practice options, bonus tools, or variety in your study sessions, ExamFX has a lot of quality materials to offer to help you pass your securities exam. They’re not perfect: you’re not getting a pass guarantee, and they can be pricier than competitors with more extensive resource libraries. However, for students who get bored doing the same thing over and over and struggle to stay focused in their studies, ExamFX could be the cure.
