Driver dead after single-vehicle crash on Laguna Boulevard in Elk Grove, police say

Roadway fatality

A driver was killed after their vehicle crashed into a tree Wednesday night in Elk Grove, police said.

Officers responded to the single-vehicle crash, near Laguna Boulevard and Laguna Main Street, the Elk Grove Police Department said in social media posts just after 10:15 p.m.

The vehicle hit a tree in the center median of Laguna Boulevard, police said. The driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Police Department in a news release described the driver as a 35-year-old woman and the vehicle as a 2016 Lexus sedan. Arriving officers found the woman unconscious in the driver’s seat.

The crash remains under investigation, but investigators determined speed may have been a contributing factor, according to the news release.

The victim’s identity will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office pending notification of family.
