Another Bed Bath & Beyond location in Sacramento region closing its doors
The end is near for Bed Bath & Beyond in Elk Grove. The faltering home goods chain is shuttering its West Stockton Boulevard location adding Elk Grove to its mounting list of store closures.
The news came in a Tuesday listing on the Bed Bath and Beyond website. The store at 9145 W. Stockton Blvd., in the Laguna Gateway shopping center with anchors Best Buy and Old Navy, is open for now. Bright signs posted to the plate glass windows blaring “Nothing Held Back” and “Everything on Sale!” now greet customers at the store’s entrance.
A smattering of customers milled through the store Wednesday afternoon, goods marked 10% to 30% off as the store begins to clear out its inventory.
Once Bed Bath & Beyond pulls up stakes, Elk Grove will be left with sister imprint Buy Buy Baby in the nearby Laguna Crossroads shopping center on Laguna Boulevard at Bruceville Road.
In a third quarter earnings report in January, Bed Bath and Beyond executives said the company’s initial turnaround plan fell short and that it was “on track” to shed the 150 Bed Bath & Beyond, Buy Buy Baby and Harmon stores it had outlined for closure last year.
“Our organization is more streamlined and we have adopted a more focused infrastructure that reflects our current business,” officials said in the January message to shareholders. Bed Bath and Beyond posted net sales of nearly $1.26 billion in its third quarter, down 33%, according to the January report.
