Construction begins for possible third Safeway location in Elk Grove. Here’s where

A new construction project is underway in Elk Grove, and it appears the intent is to bring a new Safeway grocery store to the Laguna Reserve Marketplace shopping plaza.

The store, planned for the southwest corner of Bruceville Road and Whitelock Parkway, will be approximately 57,000 square feet and is expected to be completed by late 2024, according to a city of Elk Grove building official contracted with CSG Consultants, a group specializing in commercial and urban development for public agencies.

“Contractor Tilton Pacific Construction has started the grading of the site and some of the underground utility work,” said Brian Frenger of CSG Consultants.

This location will be the third Safeway store in Elk Grove. The others are located on Laguna Boulevard and on Elk Grove Florin Road, the latter of which also includes a gas station. Frenger confirmed the Bruceville Road site will “not include a gas station at this time.”

The Laguna Reserve Marketplace property is owned by Roseville-based Gallelli Real Estate. An official with Gallelli Real Estate did not respond to a request for comment Tuesday.

Safeway parent company Albertsons Companies, Inc., has not yet confirmed the new store, which was first reported last week by the Sacramento Business Journal. The news outlet cited a leasing brochure posted online by Gallelli Real Estate that describe the supermarket as the planned “anchored center” of the Laguna Reserve shopping center, and which says the supermarket is “coming soon.”

After the 56,988 square-foot space is filled, there will be only two spaces remaining at Laguna Reserve, which are 1,210 and 2,000 square feet.
