Elk Grove is providing grants for nonprofit organizations in the area. How to apply

Elk Grove news

Elk Grove is providing an opportunity in the coming weeks for nonprofit organizations in the area to earn grants to fund programs, projects, services and other events anticipated for the 2024-25 fiscal year.

Elk Grove nonprofit organizations are encouraged to apply for the grant opportunity online through WebGrants, the city’s online grant management system. Applying online through the portal is the only way applications for grants will be accepted, according to the city’s website.

New WebGrants applicants must register for an account prior to being able to submit an application.

According to the city website, Elk Grove is offering three grant programs for organizations to apply for: the community development block grant (CDBG), community service grant (CSG) and event sponsorship grant (ESG).

The CDBG, a program supported by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, offers funding for an array of public service activities, housing programs and public facility improvements that benefit low-income Elk Grove residents, according to the city’s website.

The city has used CDBG funds since 2003 to support senior and youth programs, upgrade nonprofit facilities, run housing programs and finish accessibility improvements, according to the city website.

The CSG is a local grant program, according to the city’s website, which funds a variety of public service activities and art programs for Elk Grove residents such as: providing senior meals, emergency food distribution, services for residents experiencing homelessness, staff support for senior and youth programs and emergency funding for utility assistance.

According to the city’s website, the ESG program provides direct funding, city facility use and in-kind services to support Elk Grove-based organizations hosting special events that have a citywide significance and are beneficial to the Elk Grove community.

The application period opened Friday. The deadline to apply for the CDBG and CSG programs is Feb. 14. For the ESG program, the deadline is Feb. 23.

Local nonprofits can apply for up to $100,000 in the CSG program funds. All amounts awarded depend on funding and City Council’s approval through the annual budget process.

Those unfamiliar with the process can get support from city officials who will host a public webinar going over eligibility requirements, the application process and offer technical assistance to prospective applicants during the virtual event, 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Jan. 23.

Participants must register in advance to participate in the live webinar. Community members are also encouraged to register and input the services that are most needed in Elk Grove. The city’s website said there will be an archived recording of the webinar posted after the event.

The 2024-25 fiscal year runs from July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2025. Organization leaders interested in receiving email alerts for future nonprofit funding opportunities in Elk Grove should sign up to their contact list.

Further details about the individual grant programs, applications and their deadlines are available at www.elkgrovecity.org/grants.
