Elk Grove is preparing to welcome a new firehouse to the suburban region south of Sacramento next week.

The Cosumnes Community Services District will celebrate the grand opening April 4 of its ninth fire station which will be located at 8350 Poppy Ridge Road, near Big Horn Boulevard and south of Whitelock Parkway.

The station will be named Cosumnes Fire Station 77.

Elk Grove residents are invited to the ceremonial gathering to explore the station, meet local firefighters and learn more about CSD services. Fire Chief Felipe Rodriguez will be at the event, which starts at 10 a.m., greeting residents and other visitors.

“Station 77 isn’t just a building, but a symbol of our commitment to the safety and well-being of our community,” Cosumnes CSD spokesperson Jenna Brinkman said in a news release. “This new station is crucial for the community due to the increased demand for emergency response and services. As the area continues to grow, we must be equipped to meet expanded community needs.”

In a news release, Cosumnes CSD said the station’s location near Big Horn Boulevard was strategically chosen to distribute resources across the district, which will help improve response times and enable it to better serve the upcoming residential and commercial developments planned for Elk Grove.

Cosumnes CSD, according to its website, is an independent special district that has its own elected board of directors and annual budget. The district’s fire department serves Elk Grove, Galt and parts of south Sacramento County.
