Second annual Elk Grove Fall Jazz Festival is coming up. What’s new about it?

The second year of the Elk Grove Fall Jazz Festival is scheduled for Sept. 28 at Laguna Town Hall Amphitheatre.

A-List Party Experience, the festival’s promoter, is hoping to keep the good times rolling for the second year after a successful inaugural festival that was only dampened by a few rain sprinkles.

“We’re just hoping that (rain) last year was an anomaly,” said APEX Talent director Michael Craft. “This year, based on the heat that we’ve had this entire summer, I say we should be great. It should be a mild, nice, hopefully mid-80s day for people to come out and enjoy the sun but not burn up (but) be cool.

“We’re not anticipating any rain, or at least we’re praying that we don’t get any.”

Artists performing at the festival include Paula Atherton, Lin Rountree, the Garrett Perkins Project and Billboard top-charting artist Julian Vaughn as the headliner.

Craft said that ticket sales around this time are ahead of last year’s show, which ultimately brought in hundreds of attendees with nearly 700 sold tickets.

“We’re just trying to just continue to bring entertainment to the Elk Grove community in a big way,” he said. “Jazz is universally known throughout many different cultures, different economic structures and so we try to bring something that everyone, young and old, can appeal to, can come out and enjoy themselves.”

The concert will be hosted and emceed by radio host Lee Perkins of Sacramento community radio station KDEE-LP and KCRA, Channel 3, journalist Brandi Cummings.

Following community feedback from the inaugural event, Craft said the upcoming festival would offer more food vendors, a wine and spirits garden, retail vendors and mental health information booths.

Some of the vendors include Our Place Kitchen, Sims BBQ, Cousins Maine Lobster.

Tickets are $60 and can be purchased online or at the gate the day of the show. The gates at 3020 Renwick St. open at noon, the show is set from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.
