Roads to close in Elk Grove for annual Running of the Elk. See where, when
Roads will be closed across Elk Grove Sunday as one of the city’s largest runs takes place.
The 15th annual Running of the Elk, sponsored by Kaiser Permanente, will begin at 8 a.m. Sunday. The event starts and finishes at District56, located at 8230 Civic Center Drive, and offers a 5K, 10K and a fun run for kids. Proceeds from the event benefit the Elk Grove Youth Sports Foundation, a nonprofit organization that provides scholarships to local children playing sports.
Road closures will begin at 7 a.m. Sunday and last until approximately noon, according to a news release from the city.
Road closures include:
- Civic Center Drive between Big Horn Boulevard and Laguna Springs Drive
- Northbound Big Horn Boulevard between Whitelock Parkway and Lotz Parkway
- Laguna Springs Drive between Elk Grove Boulevard and Lotz Parkway. A police escort will guide residents living on Allen Ranch Way and its surrounding streets to their neighborhood
- Whitelock Parkway between West Stockton Boulevard and Lotz Parkway
- Northbound Promenade Parkway between Kyler Road and Whitelock Parkway, though residential traffic will be permitted
- Lotz Parkway between Whitelock Parkway and Big Horn Boulevard
- From 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., Auto Center Drive and all roads traveling through the Elk Grove Auto Mall
The city is encouraging residents to use Bruceville Road, Elk Grove Boulevard or Kammerer Road to avoid closures.
