Placerville City Council set to approve and license city’s first cannabis dispensaries
Placerville, the small town of about 10,000 people in El Dorado County, may soon join its more urban neighbors as City Council moves forward with plans to approve its first marijuana dispensaries.
At Tuesday’s meeting, the city is slated to award business licenses to three dispensaries to operate as cannabis retailers.
Placerville passed ordinances in late 2018 allowing for dispensaries to operate within city limits, but limited the number permitted to three.
Over the course of several months, city leadership has vetted potential dispensary candidates after an application period, and the three ultimately selected were culled from a field of 13 applicants based on their likelihood of success.
According to a city manager’s report, Sacred Roots will be opening at 651 Main St. for retail and delivery, Chuck’s Cannabis Collective will be opening at 1318 Broadway for retail, and Reserve House will be opening at 560 Placerville Drive for cultivation, retail and delivery.
City ordinance also allows for three cannabis testing labs, but no applications have been received as of yet, according to the report.
