Firefighters battle overnight blaze in El Dorado Hills neighborhood

Cal Fire and local fire departments battled a blaze early Sunday morning that ignited on a slope in El Dorado Hills near a residential neighborhood.

Cal Fire’s Amador-El Dorado Unit said the Sophia Fire started on a hill overlooking Sophia Parkway near the intersection of Alexandra Drive around 1 a.m.

Almost two dozen Cal Fire personnel, along with firefighters from the El Dorado Hills and Folsom departments, responded to the fire, which spread up the hillside through dry grass.

Sophia Parkway borders several homes, and more houses sit further up the hill on another road, but firefighters managed to stop the momentum before it spread to any structures.

No evacuations were ordered to nearby residents and the fire was contained at 35.5 acres, according to Cal Fire.

Cal Fire crews will remain at the scene of the fire Sunday to tamp out hot spots and patrol the area. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
