Folsom neighborhood vandalized with swastikas; police investigating ‘acts of hatred’
Police are investigating a possible hate crime incident in Folsom after several homes and vehicles in a neighborhood were tagged over the weekend with antisemitic graffiti, including swastikas.
The Folsom Police Department responded to an initial call on Carmody Circle around 11:45 p.m. Sunday, spokesman Lt. Andrew Bates said.
The graffiti included the words, “Go Trump Heil Hitler” followed by a swastika spray-painted in orange on the garage of one home, according to photos posted by the Folsom Telegraph newspaper.
Another garage had an expletive against Jews written in orange, according to Telegraph photos that blurred out the expletive, and at least two vehicles on Carmody Circle were tagged with white swastikas.
Police received four total reports of vandalism, Bates said.
“We take acts of hatred seriously and are working several angles to find those responsible for these crimes,” Bates said in an emailed response.
Bates said the suspects are believed to be three younger males who left the scene in a silver, newer model minivan.
Anyone with home security video or information regarding the incident is asked to contact the Police Department at 916-355-7231.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations’ Sacramento Valley/Central California office issued a statement Tuesday condemning the vandalism.
“We strongly condemn the hateful antisemitic and neo-Nazi campaign in Folsom,” Basim Elkarra, executive director of CAIR Sacramento Valley, said in a prepared statement. “We must come together to condemn the rising tide of hate, antisemitism and intolerance.”
