The city of Folsom will hold its annual Christmas tree recycling from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Rodeo Park at the end of Stafford Street, according to the city.

Christine Brainerd, a city spokeswoman, said the trees will be recycled and converted into compost to add nutrients to soil and help it retain water.

All ornaments, tinsel, lights, nails and stands must be removed before dropping off a tree, according to the city. Flocked trees will not be accepted, meaning they cannot be dusted with artificial snow.

Residents can also recycle Christmas trees in the green waste bin, the city said. If residents dispose of trees this way, all ornaments, tinsel, lights, nails and stands must still be removed. The city requires that trees be cut into pieces no larger than 2 feet in length and 4 inches in diameter, and a bin’s lid must close completely to receive service.

Community organizations will also be collecting trees throughout the city as part of fundraising activities.

For more information, contact the city’s Recycling Division at 916-461-6730 or recycle@folsom.ca.us.
