Altercation in Folsom ends with man being injured by pressure washer, police say

News from Folsom

A man was injured Monday morning in Folsom by a pressure washer during an altercation, police said.

The incident occurred just before 6 a.m. behind Larkspur Landing, a hotel on Iron Point Road, according to Folsom Police Department spokesman Officer Matt Stone. Two men engaged in an argument apparently struggled over the washer, resulting in injury to one of the men.

Officers arrived on scene and located a 43-year-old man who was bleeding from his throat and reported being stabbed, police said. Other officers searched the area and found another 57-year-old man, of Sacramento, authorities said.

The 57-year-old man involved is part of a third-party business hired by the hotel to pressure wash the property, according to law enforcement.

After investigation, police said the 43-year-old was sleeping near the hotel and claims he was sprayed without provocation. Police said the worker reported that he made requests for the 43-year-old man to move, spraying other areas of the business first before returning and asking again.

The worker reported the 43-year-old man got up, began chasing him and made threatening statements, authorities said. The worker, in response, said he grabbed his pressure washer and sprayed the 43-year-old from a distance away, according to police.

The worker’s account claims the 43-year-old continued to charge through the spraying water, grabbed the nozzle and struggled with the worker. It was during this struggle that the water reportedly cut the skin on the chest and throat of the 43-year-old man.

The injured man walked to a nearby gas station and called for help, according to law enforcement. He sustained minor, non-life-threatening injuries to his upper torso and neck, Stone said.

Stone said the incident is under investigation and that it is unclear if a crime was committed or if the pressure washer was used in self defense. Law enforcement said detectives are investigating and would like to speak with witnesses.

Witnesses of the incident can call 916-355-7230.
