Intel plans layoffs at Folsom campus for 2nd time this year. How many jobs will be cut?
Intel Corp. plans to lay off 89 positions at its large Folsom campus and cut 51 jobs from San Jose offices by the end of the month, the company said Wednesday.
The semiconductor company said it is cutting the positions in an attempt to “identify cost reductions and efficiency gains” through business and workforce reductions, according to Intel spokeswoman Addy Burr.
“As discussed on prior earnings calls, Intel is working to accelerate its strategy while reducing costs,” Intel said in a statement. “We have more than 13,000 employees in California and continue to invest in areas core to our business, including our U.S.-based manufacturing operations, to ensure we are well-positioned for long-term growth.”
Intel is the capital region’s largest tech employer, with approximately 5,300 workers in the area.
It laid of 111 employees — about 2% of its Sacramento workforce — from its Folsom campus at the end of January.
Intel cut 90 jobs at its Santa Clara headquarters around the same time.
The company’s 1.5-million-square-foot site in Folsom, located on Prairie City Road near Highway 50, is used for research and development. It opened in 1984.
