See Cal Fire helicopters near Folsom Lake? Here’s what to know
Multiple helicopters and nearly 40 Cal Fire personnel are expected Thursday at Folsom Lake for aviation training exercises.
Two aviation courses are expected to take place, including water drops, passenger loading, cargo handling and refining communications, according to a release.
Cal Fire Aviation unit spokesperson Linnea Edmeier said a temporary helicopter base will be set up in Granite Bay, but the training exercises are slated to take place across Folsom Lake.
“We try to minimize our impact on the community, and we try to minimize where we’re going (to avoid) people,” Edmeier said.
With that in mind, Edmeier said specific spots aren’t selected ahead of time.
“They’ll go out there and they’ll take a couple of flights around to look and see if we have people fishing or people out at the lake,” she said. “We’ll avoid those areas.”
In a Thursday news conference in Sonoma County, Cal Fire Director and Fire Chief Joe Tyler urged residents to look out for one another, and to help each other prepare for wildfire season.
“If you are a person who is a homeowner or a tenant, and you have a neighbor next to you who needs assistance (getting their home prepared for wildfire season), we ask that you help them,” Tyler said.
