A Sacramento-area driver was pulled over earlier this month with a blood alcohol concentration more than four times California’s legal limit, according to police.

The Folsom Police Department announced Thursday that officers stopped the driver May 1, arrested the person on suspicion of driving under the influence and booked them into the Sacramento County Jail.

“This serves as an important reminder: never drink and drive,” the Folsom Police Department wrote in a statement. “Impaired driving endangers not only your life, but the lives of passengers, other motorists, and pedestrians. If you plan to drink, plan a safe way home, designate a sober driver, use a ride-share service or arrange alternative transportation. One responsible decision can prevent a tragedy.”

Folsom police said the traffic stop occurred after witnesses reported the driver to authorities.

More than 26% of driving deaths between 2019 and 2023 were related to alcohol consumption, according to Be Healthy Sacramento.
