Rancho Cordova is working to expand electric vehicle charging access. Here’s how

Rancho Cordova news

Rancho Cordova is working to improve access for electric vehicles and their chargers in the city, and it’s asking for residents’ help.

The city is developing an EV charging needs assessment and network plan to identify where new chargers should be installed, evaluate existing chargers and identify barriers to electric vehicle adoption.

The development of the plan includes a survey asking residents for their input on where they want to see future EV chargers, city spokesperson Samantha Lieuwen said.

“The study will help the city better understand current needs, gaps and opportunities so that future investments can be guided by data and community input,” Lieuwen said.

The city is prioritizing equitable access to chargers, specifically for residents of apartments and multifamily housing, disadvantaged and underserved communities, small businesses and publicly accessible locations, according to the city’s website.

“Community feedback is an important part of this work, and the city really wants to hear from residents, businesses and visitors, whether they drive an electric vehicle now, are thinking about getting one in the future or simply want to help shape a cleaner transportation system for Rancho Cordova,” Lieuwen said.

The study is funded by the Sacramento Area Council of Governments’ regional carbon reduction program, according to Lieuwen. That funding does not cover future construction or installation of chargers.

“Any future implementation would require separate funding, site-specific feasibility review, potential partnerships and necessary approvals,” Lieuwen said.

The plan is expected to be presented to the Rancho Cordova City Council in early 2027, according to Lieuwen.
