Man dies after driving into oncoming Highway 99 traffic, CHP says
A man died after driving his vehicle into oncoming traffic on Highway 99 near Roseville early Monday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A 55-year-old Berry Creek man was driving southbound in a Chevrolet on Highway 99 in Pleasant Grove when he drifted off the side of the roadway into a dirt shoulder at around 12:15 a.m., according to the CHP.
Officers say the man struck a call box before he drove back across the southbound lanes, over the dirt median and into oncoming traffic.
A 37-year-old Oroville woman in a Volkswagen was traveling in the northbound lane when her car was struck by the Chevy. Both vehicles ended up in the east dirt shoulder as a result of the crash, according to the CHP.
The woman was taken to the UC Davis Medical Center to treat moderate injuries as a result of the crash, according to the CHP. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
