Placer County deputy revives man from second Colfax opiate overdose reported in 10 days
A sheriff’s deputy saved a man from an opiate overdose in Colfax this week, marking the second overdose the city has seen in the past 10 days.
According to Angela Musallam, a spokeswoman for the Placer County Sheriff’s Office, the deputy was dispatched to an alleyway between Depot Street and Grass Valley Street at 8:46 p.m Monday.
When the deputy arrived on the scene, he found an unresponsive man lying on his back, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.
After the deputy administered two doses of agency-issued Narcan, the man regained consciousness and was taken to a nearby hospital.
Deputies used Narcan for an opiate overdose in a Colfax parking lot on June 3.
“Drugs sold on the streets today have a 9/10 chance of containing fentanyl, especially drugs being marketed as Xanax, Percocet, Oxycontin, etc.,” the Sheriff’s Office cautioned in the release. “Our deputies and detectives have verified it, and our criminal informants have verified it.
