Authorities investigating possible human remains found in rural spot near California wildfire

Police tape at crime scene

Placer County authorities are searching for clues into possible human remains found Wednesday in Foresthill.

Placer County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the grisly find on Cold Springs Drive just before 7:30 a.m., Placer County Sheriff’s officials said in a statement Friday. The area is several miles southwest of the Mosquito Fire, which has been burning in Placer and El Dorado County since Sept. 6.

“We want to reassure community members we don’t believe there is any imminent threat or danger to them at this time,” the statement read, calling the sheriff’s probe an active investigation.

Sheriff’s officials ask anyone with information to call the sheriff’s investigations tip line at 530-889-7853.
