One of Roseville’s best restaurants retained its Michelin rating in new California guide

Roseville’s renowned Mexican restaurant Nixtaco retained its Michelin Bib Gourmand status, a distinction conferred on restaurants that excel at providing an excellent dining experience at a reasonable price.

Nixtaco — located at 1805 Cirby Way, Suite 12, in Roseville — is owned and operated by Monterey natives Patricio Wise and Cinthia Martinez. It first earned its Bib Gourmand status in 2021.

The restaurant is well-known for its housemade blue corn tortillas that serve as vessels for high-end tacos filled with scorched octopus, fatty chicharrón or diced sweet potato. It also serves loaded quesadillas cooked with pork belly, shrimp Mazatlan style and pickled onions.

The restaurant’s Twenty Dollar Burrito, a pandemic-borne monstrosity with terrific smoked carnitas, fried chicken, rajas con queso and peanut chipotle aioli atop a layer of refried beans and grilled cheese, is another popular item.

Nixtaco also opened Roseville’s first distillery, and makes its own vodka in house.
