Roseville News

This Sacramento suburb is one of the happiest places in America. Find out why

Roseville is one of the happiest cities in America, according to a new study from the University of Pennsylvania.

In a study of the country’s 164 largest cities, Roseville ranked seventh in the nation.

To rank the cities, “we looked at 13 different metrics across three categories: personal finance, well-being and quality of life,” the study said.

California cities ranked well in the report largely because of the state high’s high household incomes. The cities that made the top 10 also had high marriage rates and lower percentages of people living below the poverty line.

Sunnyvale took the top spot on the list.

“The city has the highest percentage of individuals earning $100,000 or more (62.5%),” the study said.

It was followed by Arlington, Va. and Bellevue, Wa., then another California city, Fremont.

Roseville ranked in seventh place for its relatively low cost of living.

“Living costs in Roseville, California are the fifth-lowest across the study making up about a third of the median household income annually,” the study said. “Just over 38% of the city’s population earn $100,000 or more (13th-highest) and less than 6% live below the poverty-level (fourth-lowest).”

The city also had low violent crime rates, increasing its desirability.

Roseville was followed by San Jose, Santa Clarita and Irvine.

Placer County’s biggest city has also been recognized by Money Magazine in recent years and one of the best places to live in the U.S.
