Discount retailer Tuesday Morning files bankruptcy, will close 3 Sacramento-area stores

The company that owns discount home retailer Tuesday Morning stores filed for bankruptcy Tuesday and announced plans to close all remaining stores in the Sacramento area.

The Roseville store at 5771 Five Star Blvd. in Fairway Commons near the Home Depot on Fairway Drive is included in the closure. So are locations in Folsom — at 685 E. Bidwell St in the Folsom Faire Shopping Center — and Citrus Heights — at 7255 Greenback Lane in the San Juan Shopping Center — are also included in the closure.

The retailer plans to close more than half of its stores across the U.S.

The store offers discount home decor items as well as furniture, bedding, art supplies and bath accessories.

“The debtors have faced unprecedented challenges, including underperforming sales at their 464 retail locations,” Tuesday Morning Corp. said in its Chapter 11 filing. “To address these challenges, the debtors’ management team, in the exercise of their sound business judgment and in consultation with their advisors, ultimately determined that immediate liquidation of the Company’s inventory at its underperforming store locations.”

The company had entered and emerged from Chapter 11 two years ago during the pandemic, during which time they closed two other Sacramento stores in Arden Arcade and Natomas.

At its peak, the chain had more than 700 locations.
