County approves $28 million infrastructure for ‘backbone’ of Sacramento State Placer Center

Roseville news

Placer County officials approved a $28 million sewer line Tuesday that will connect to the new Placer One development north of Roseville, which is the future home of Sacramento State’s Placer Center.

The development covers 2,213 acres and includes a mix of homes and businesses that will accompany the university, which anchors the project.

The university is a partnership between Sacramento State and Sierra College and “is expected to allow students of both systems to attend classes in a blended learning environment,” the county said.

“I’m very excited to see progress on the infrastructure to Placer One, a future university and the rest of the Sunset Area, “said Supervisor Shanti Landon in a statement, who represents the region. “This part of west Placer is going to drive the economy with high-paying jobs, higher education, housing and many other amenities for our residents.”

The project broke ground last fall. The first phase of the project will lay the groundwork for residential lots, roadways, and parks. The development will eventually feature seven “villages,” according to the master plan, which will be neighborhoods with varying lot sizes.

Eventually and network of bike trails will connect the neighborhoods with the university and the 200-acre town center that will house retail stores, office space and apartments.

The sewer line is an important “backbone” to the project, the county said Wednesday. The initial $17 million for the line will come from the county, with the remaining $11 million to be provided through sewer connection fees as homes and businesses are built within the project.
