News of Bosch’s move buy a Roseville semi-conductor company, bringing $1.5 billion in investments, is good news for the booming Placer County city, a city official said Wednesday.

“It’s a big deal for Roseville,” Dominick Casey said, city manager for the city of Roseville.

Bosch, a German conglomerate with more than 400,000 employees worldwide, announced Wednesday that it plans to acquire TSI Semiconductors, turning its foundry into a manufacturing facility for silicon carbide chips.

Casey said in an interview Wednesday that Bosch’s decision to come to Roseville boded well for California and the city’s quality of life.

They have planned $1.5 billion of investment in Roseville, which is hugely influential for the city of Roseville not only as an economic engine for jobs, sales tax and revenue, but also quality of life,” Casey said. “It’s great to have a high-quality employer in Roseville.

“The potential economic impact cannot be overstated,” he said.

TSI Semiconductors’ campus on Foothills Boulevard is made up of the company’s headquarters, along with a manufacturing foundry that includes 150,000 square feet of “cleanroom” space.

Founded in 1984, the company currently produces application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs) but will be transformed to manufacture SiC chips.

The campus is in a commercial area of west Roseville, neighboring an Amazon warehouse and a restaurant depot.

“One of the things that drove (Bosch) to Roseville is that it already had a site with trained workers,” Casey said.

Casey also credited the city’s municipal utilities as another reason that made Roseville an attractive destination for business.

“We’re a community of choice for investment, with an environment that fuels business growth, a skilled and educated workforce, vibrant quality of life, and some of the nation’s most reliable and low-cost municipal utilities. Roseville checks all the boxes,” Mayor Bruce Houdesheldt said in a statement.

“We’re excited for Bosch to get on the ground,” Casey added.
