School’s out, now what? Check out these Roseville activities with your kids this summer

Roseville news

For parents, summer can be a welcome break from breakneck schedules. But it brings new challenges — namely, how to keep kids entertained after boredom sets in.

To combat summer boredom, Roseville and the surrounding areas have an array of inexpensive, and sometimes even free, activities that the whole family can enjoy. Check these events out if you’re stumped on what to do with your kids this summer.

Roseville Aquatics Complex: Looking for a place to swim this summer? Roseville’s swim passes are on sale and offer access to the Roseville Aquatics Center for $50 per person or $125 for a family of four. Pass holders can participate in recreational swim time, family nights and a number of other special events at one of the city’s largest pools. Passes can be used up to Sept. 4.

Splash Pads: Roseville has a couple of water play features scattered among its parks, but the splash pad at Harry Crabb Park on the corner of Secret Ravine Parkway and Scarborough Drive is perhaps the best. Kids can cool off at the giant crab water play structure and then head to the playground. There are picnic areas, too, to enjoy a lunch.

A smaller splash pad can be found at Luken Park on Pleasant Grove Boulevard.

Another excellent splash pad can be found in neighboring Rocklin at Whitney Park. The park also boasts an excellent playground. Splash pads at Kathy Lund Park and Johnson-Springview Park are also open through October. The spigots come on every daily at 10 a.m.

Family Festival at Roseville Telephone Museum: As part of the county’s Heritage Trail, the local families are welcome to attend this free event to learn about the telephone and how it affected the region’s history. Attendees can enjoy free treats from Fig Tree Coffee, Kona Ice and Dave’s Dawgs. There will also be a giant slide, face painting and games.

Guests can explore the museum’s extensive collection of telephones, switchboards and telecommunications technology, highlighting early Roseville history.

The museum and festival will be open from 10 a.m to 4 p.m. June 24.

Big Trucks Summer: Every Thursday in June, the City of Roseville puts its big trucks and utility vehicles out for display in a family-friendly event to showcase all the ways the city’s fleet keeps Roseville a great place to live. So if you’ve got a little one obsessed with big trucks, this is an event you can’t miss.

On June 15, Roseville will showcase its water utility vehicles. The following week, on June 22, it’s all about trash trucks. And on June 29, the city’s wastewater vehicles will be out to show how they keep all the city’s pipe flowing smoothly.

Attendees will also have the chance to get behind the driver’s seat and enjoy a hands-on demonstration with the controls.

Summer Concerts: They city’s Concert in the Square series kicks off June 17 at 7:30p.m. with a Motley Crue tribute band in Vernon Street Town Square. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. and admission is free. Food trucks will there, too. Choose between Gondo Fusion, Local Kine Shave Ice, Gameday Grill or Hefty Gyros, and enjoy dinner and a show.
