Rocklin is set to add 16 new pickleball courts at the Sunset Whitney Recreation Area as part of a $2.5 million project expected to be completed by the end of summer.

The courts will be built at 4201 Midas Ave. on the former Sunset Whitney golf course property.

The project includes fencing, court surfacing, accessibility improvements, landscaping and drainage work, along with new walkways, utilities and supporting site infrastructure.

The courts are part of a city-funded capital improvement project. The Placer Valley Tourism contributed $400,000 through a grant, with the remaining funding coming from public park development resources.

The project went out to bid in February 2026. Construction is expected to begin in late April and to take about 50 working days, with city officials targeting a potential opening in late summer.

Haley Reid, a management analyst for the city of Rocklin, said pickleball has become one of the fastest-growing recreational activities locally and nationally.

“Existing courts in Rocklin are limited and often heavily used, and this project responds directly to increasing community demand for dedicated courts and expanded capacity,” she said.

The new courts are designed to support public play, league competition and tournament events. The facility will also include viewing areas for spectators to accommodate organized events and community programming.
