Yolo fire blackens 70 acres, sends one to hospital, before crews knock down blaze

A fire near Davis on Tuesday that sent a person to a hospital and briefly forced the evacuation of a dozen homes blackened nearly 70 acres before crews controlled the blaze.

West Plainfield Fire Department crews got the call just before 4 p.m. Tuesday of a structure fire on County Road 95A, officials said in a social media post.

By the time crews arrived, the fire spread to surrounding grass and was moving toward homes on Creeksedge Road. Twelve homes on Creeksedge got the order to evacuate as firefighters from no fewer than 14 agencies including Winters, Davis, Woodland, West Sacramento and Yocha Dehe fire departments joined the attack, said West Plainfield fire officials.

The crews stopped the fire’s spread at 69 acres, but the fire destroyed an outbuilding and sent a person to a hospital. A firefighter from an unnamed agency was treated at the scene for exhaustion. Local temperatures climbed into the 90s on Tuesday.

Crews continued to mop up through the night monitoring potential flare-ups and the fire’s cause remains under investigation.
