Yolo County plans a new spring celebration of its businesses, growers

Yolo County is inviting people to eat, drink, dance and celebrate its local businesses and growers this spring.

On Monday, the county’s tourism board announced its first ever YoloFest, a weekend-long festival in March held across Yolo County’s major cities, towns and rural countryside communities. Wineries, restaurants, area businesses and farms will host events and have food and drink specials as part of the festival.

“Spring is the perfect season for a weekend escape-time to reset, explore, and enjoy a breath of fresh air,” said Visit Yolo County President Guysell Geter in a news release Monday.

YoloFest will be from March 27-29 this year, according to a news release.

What activities will there be during YoloFest?

In Davis, Winters, Woodland, West Sacramento and countryside towns like Capay, Zamora and Clarksburg, YoloFest will consist of various adult-oriented and family-friendly events. As of Monday, Visit Yolo listed 47 events on its website.

Most of the festival’s activities are free, though some require an advance ticket purchase.

“YOLOFEST invites both visitors and locals to savor the very best of Yolo County at their own pace, with a full weekend of experiences featuring live music, unique shopping, wine and spirits tasting, and local farm-to-table restaurants,” Geter said in the release.

To kick off the weekend, the Yolo Basin Foundation will offer a free interactive tour of the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area off County Road 32B in Davis the morning of Friday, March 27. Later that evening, Winters will host its monthly Fourth Friday Downtown Block Party, with live music, classic cars, kids activities and local restaurant specials.

Pick up a craft beer and learn some line dances at Hooby’s Brewing Farm in Davis on Friday night. Participants are encouraged to give a $5 donation, which will benefit a local charity, according to the Visit Yolo website.

A number of farms, including Park Winters Flower Farm, Morgan’s of California, Capay Valley Lavender and Full Belly Farm, will offer tours and open house events for families. Vineyards and wineries across the county have tasting events planned for the 21+ crowd.

River Fox Train plans to take three excursions on the Yolo Explorer route around the county’s agricultural regions. A wine tasting ride and an afternoon tea train trip are also available. River Fox will also offer its guided railbike adventure along West Sacramento’s river corridor, for $109-$139 per person.

For the art lovers, Pence Gallery in downtown Davis is planning to open its doors with exhibits featuring work by area artists. On Sunday, March 29, the gallery will offer a drop-in printmaking workshop, with $5 tickets for museum members and $10 for non-members.

Throughout the weekend, eateries like Taber Ranch in Capay and Steady Eddy’s in Winters will serve specialty dishes and drinks for hungry festival-goers. Davis’s Great Bear Vineyards is planning an upscale six-course tasting menu with an additional wine pairing option.

A comprehensive list of YoloFest events and information about lodging in the area is available on the Visit Yolo website.
