Nicole Lynn is the first Black woman to represent a player in the Super Bowl
The Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles head to the Super Bowl this Sunday, and the big game is already making history.
Detour previously reported that this year’s game is the first to have two Black quarterbacks leading their teams on the field. Patrick Mahomes is looking to grab another Super Bowl trophy with the Chiefs, and the Eagle’s Jalen Hurts is set on adding his name to the list of greats as the fourth Black quarterback to win a Super Bowl.
Although history will play out in Glendale, Arizona, some have already taken place off the field.
Nicole Lynn of Klutch Sports is the first Black woman to serve as an agent for a player in the Super Bowl. Lynn is the agent for Hurts and is one of the members of his all-female management team.
The relationship that landed the two in the history books started through an Instagram D.M.
During a 2022 interview with Sports Illustrated, the duo shared how Lynn “threw a hail mary” to the player.
“Hey, have you picked an agent? If not, I’d love to link.” The 34-year-old agent recalled the private message she sent to Hurts while he was still playing at the University of Oklahoma.
Lynn told the outlet outside of his extraordinary efforts on the field, she was drawn to the 24-year-old player because of the “synergy” they shared.
Lynn attended the University of Oklahoma law school and married a previous football-playing Sooner. She also represented several players from the University of Alabama, where Hurts began his college career.
She didn’t expect Hurts to respond or even see the message, citing that most players had already selected their agents by the time she contacted him. However, Hurts was still on the hunt for representation, to her surprise. After meeting with Hurts and his father for three hours, Lynn signed the quarterback, who she claimed had a “poker face” during their meeting. And the rest is history.
“I know the agent world in the NFL, and all sports, is very male-dominated,” Hurts said. “But Nicole was really on top of her stuff. She was prepared. She knew what she was talking about. She was hungry. And she was determined. And I feel that determination like that never rests. Once you come across such a determined individual, that just hits me a little different.”
Lynn revealed that as a woman in the sports world, her abilities are often doubted. She mentioned, she attended the Senior Bowl with her new signee “when an agent—a man—said to them, “Hey, if baby girl doesn’t work out, give us a call. She’s sweet, but—you know.”
Zippia reports 68.6% of sports agents are White. Women make up just 23% of U.S. NFL agents; of that, only 10.4% are Black (men or women).
Hurts attributes much of his success to Lynn’s leadership, as well as the other women on his team.
The outlet lists his dream team, including Chantal Romain, Shakeemah Simmons-Winter, and Jenna Malphrus, on his media relations and client services management team, along with Rachel Everett, who handles some of his marketing.
“I’ve put a lot of trust and faith in a female-driven team.”
