King Pleasure: An exhibition by Basquiat announces dates in Los Angeles
The dates for the Los Angeles showing of the exhibition Jean-Michel Basquiat: King Pleasure have been released. This spectacular exhibition, presented by the family of Jean-Michel Basquiat features over two hundred rare pieces and artifacts, many of which have never been exhibited before, as well as renditions of the artist’s studio, childhood home, Palladium nightclub, and other locations associated with his life and career. From March 31, 2023, until July 31, 2023, you can have a once-in-a-lifetime experience at this phenomenal exhibition in Los Angeles.
Through immersive environments, Jean-Michel Basquiat’s contributions to the history of art and his wanderings of culturally diverse concepts, such as music, the Black experience, pop culture, Black American sports figures, literature, and other sources, will be on display. This will give viewers a rare look into the late artist’s creative life and his distinctive voice, which helped shape a social and cultural narrative that is still being told today.
The 1987 painting by Jean-Michel bears the same name as the jazz vocalist and bebop enthusiast King Pleasure, whose 1952 single “Moody’s Mood For Love” introduced him to fame. The Grand LA is a forward-thinking public-private partnership with the Los Angeles Grand Avenue Authority that aims to revitalize downtown Los Angeles’ civic and cultural core with a mix of commercial, retail, cultural, and residential apartments woven together with grand public spaces and top-notch architecture. The exhibition design for Jean-Michel Basquiat: King Pleasure is headed by Sir David Adjaye OBE. Adjaye Associates, known for creating several well-known structures around the globe, including the National Museum of African American History and Culture, transforms five ground-floor areas of The Grand with the remarkable tale of Jean-Michel as seen through the eyes of his family.
