Rapper and car enthusiast Wyclef Jean has taken his love for automobiles to another level. The Haiti native announced that he has collaborated with the team at Apex Motors to create an electric car with high-speed capability called the AP-0 Super Sports EV.

Although the concept for the car was unveiled in 2020, the physical product has just recently come to fruition. The butterfly-door two-seater features lightweight carbon fiber construction, weighs 2,600 pounds and has a 1,200-pound 90 kilowatt-hour battery. It’s powered by a 650 horsepower electric motor that Apex says can accelerate to 60 mph in 2.3 seconds and has an advertised top speed of 190 mph.

Aside from weighing in on the construction of the car, Jean helped to create the ride’s audio system, which has an “enhanced music and sound experience, analyzing the driver and playing song selections that best fit the mood for optimal driving experience,” said the press release.

“Our joint vision is to share our passion in the soul of driving, motorsports, craftsmanship, nurture and grow talent, promote design, concept, technology, sustainability and manufacturing solutions for now and the future,” Apex Motors said about the collaboration in an Instagram post.

The car made its U.S. debut on March 5 during Amelia Island Concours Week in Florida. According to Fox News, the final assembly of the AP-0 will take place in Little Haiti in Miami, hearkening back to Jean’s roots. Although production on the supercar is scheduled to begin in late 2024, Little Haiti is available to explore all year round. And depending on when you go, you might see that 650 horsepower motor in action.
