New Legoland Discovery Center in Atlanta brings the timeless toy into a new era
If your last memory of Legos is a small toy you stepped on after building makeshift communities, then the new Legoland Discovery Center Atlanta will blow your mind.
As one of 14 new Legoland Discovery Centers sprinkled around the United States, these toy lands are ushering in a new generation of Legos. USA Today took a field trip to Legoland in Atlanta and shared how the new space will allow your imagination to stretch as far as possible.
The new centers are billed as the “ultimate indoor Lego playground,” with larger-than-life Lego attractions, build stations, Minilands of local landmarks made of Lego bricks, classes from Lego master model builders and other Lego-themed entertainment.” The Atlanta location even comes equipped with a full-size battleship and spaceship.
The Legoland Discovery Center isn’t just a room full of plastic blocks, but is a full-service indoor fun park. The outlet stated that Atlanta guests will not only get to enjoy the spaceship experience, but also an “expanded Duplo Park for the youngest guests and a Minifigure Creator area for building custom Minifigures to take around the facility.”
The Discovery Center also made room for quality inspection with the Build Adventures area with tracks for testing Lego creations. Guests in the Miniland area can even watch Legos take form and get questions answered by the Master Model Builder. This dream job is held by the person responsible for taking over 30 million Legos and turning them into lifesize fixtures at the Discovery Centers. Danielle Ross made history in 2021 as the first female Master Model Builder in New York.
Guests can view short Lego films in the new 4D theater. The staple Kingdom Quest ride has new twists and turns and even the Great Lego race virtual reality experience has received some upgrades.
Along with ensuring fun at the centers, Lego is all about inclusivity. USA Today reports that Legoland locations in Florida, California, and New York are all Certified Autism Centers. “Every attraction at each resort has been rated for its level of stimulation on each of the five senses: hearing, sight, smell, touch and taste.” Vegetarian meal options have also been added to the Lego cafe menus.
Lego enthusiasts of all ages can enjoy the multi-million dollar renovations in Atlanta on Friday, April 7, in Boston later this spring and in Washington, D.C. later this summer.
